Powerpoint is a presentation program. It can be used to make slides, handouts, or even notes. In powerpoint presentations you can incorporate many different things, here are a few examples: videos, graphics, animation, and text.
PowerPoint is not only a really useful technological tool for students, but for teachers as well. Teachers can use this program to present information to their students. Writing notes on the chalk board or white board can be very dull and boring for students. PowerPoint is very eye catching and can be used for many different age levels. When introducing new information to my students, I would keep the slides very clear to read, and concise. Students could make PowerPoint presentations and record fieldtrips, journaling, instead of writing an essay – prepare a PowerPoint on a research topic.
One reason why I will use PowerPoint presentations in my classroom is because it reaches out to many different types of learners. Visual Learners, Kinaesthetic Learners, Oral Learners, etc. will really benefit because all of their learning need would be incorporated into the presentation. In my classroom I would have my student get into groups of three. Students would be responsible to make their own PowerPoint presentations in groups based on Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating; students would look at links between eating habits and physical, mental and intellectual well-being. This assignment would fall under the Grade 2 Food for Thought -A Sample Unit on Nutrition.
Here is an example of my powerpoint.
