We used the program iMovies to create a Movie. One movie we made was using still photos and the other movie we created was using a video camera. Here is an example of our iMovie we created using videos called “A Day in the Life of Branelle Zwingli” and here is an example of the still photo movie “I Remember Autumn”.
iMovie is an application that is available on Mac computers. This program allows you to add music, subtitles, text, crop, transitions, etc. There are endless options with this program. To be honest I probably do not know about every option that is available on this program. That is one of the reasons why I would want to introduce this to my students. We can learn together!
One way I would use iMovie in my classroom would be to have students create a iMovie using digital cameras. I would have students in groups of four and have them role play. I would ask them to role play how they would show other children how to avoid dangerous situations (how to say no to someone, even if they know them). Students would have to follow the instructions on exactly what they need to include in their iMovie but will also be able to add their own creativity and unique touches. Every student would be expected to have a chance using the video camera and the program iMovie. I would ask my students to include, music (using Garageband), transitions between slides, text, credits, and an introduction slide. This activity would fall under Grade 3 Health Education – Gathering Fact for Wellness Safety.
